There was a time a couple of years back when you'd use a search engine and most of your results were eBay listings. From 2002 until just last February I would actually search eBay first. It had gotten to the point where it offered the best selection of items...sometimes they'd even have an offering that was better than my wholesale connections.
Last February I was part of the largest eBay 'walk-out' in history. Probagly the largest en masse movement of peoples on the web since its inception. Since then eBay listings don't seem to come up in searches as prolificly as in the past.
They decided you see, that they would no longer allow the seller to leave negative feedback for the buyer, but that the buyer could not only leave negative for the seller, they'd be offered gift certificates for doing so...by eBay. Along with that, sellers receiving negative feedback (and 2 could be enough to affect me) would lose points and when those points were low enough, the sellers payment would be held in paypal and not released until the buyer left positive feedback. I've had buyers never receive their product and not respond to emails. I've had buyers refuse to leave feedback. They'll respond to my email with a positive email no matter how many times I explain that it needs to be left in the eBay system itself to matter. In that case, I'd never be paid!
The Anti-eBay Union on Delphi Forums was a great idea, but unfortunately they would not listen to me when choosing which new auction site to go to. They chose 3 instead of one which further splintered our numbers giving us less power to draw an audience of consumers. I am trying to sell on the main one, OLA , better known as OnlineAuction.com. I've had 10 auctions up for a few days with a couple people that looked. Not very promising. Could be my timing, though. I'll place some more after the December holidays and see if anyone bites.
So here I sit...another eBay refugee working on their own website trying to figure out how to attract people to it. I'm always first or second in the google/yahoo rankings if you search for my Dead sunglasses. I'll just have to do more blogging and advertisement in order to educate the consumer that this product even exists!
