Just wanted to share something that happened to my cat Aiko with all you cat owners out there. It might save you some heartache. And money.

Aiko almost died a few years back. The vet hospitalized her for a few days running an IV and antibiotics. They saved her life but never made any effort towards any diagnosis. It seemed that every Fall she's sick. For 5 or 6 years now!

This year she was peeing blood. Aiko's new vet, Dr. Renee from http://pinepointanimalhospital.com/. Aiko was given an x-ray that she should have gotten 5 years ago (in my opinion). The x-ray showed her bladder was full of stones...crystals. There are two types. One will dissolve with antibiotics and special food. The other must be removed surgically. We treated for the easy type. I spoon fed and watered with an eyedropper, my 17.5 pound cat on the ditchen floor for over two weeks. She has been eating on her own a few days now as today is two xrays after the initial visit are showing a tiny amount of crystals are left now and surgery will not be necessary.

I heard from my dear departed neighbor Woody, years back that I should never feed a male cat high ash content food as it will cause stones in the cat's urinary tract. A females urethra is wider, so it's rarer for them to be afflicted. We decided not to worry as Aiko is a female and look what happened! Next time you shop for wet food especially...check a few brands and buy the lowest ash content you can find. It'll probably be a more 'natural' type, too.

I wanted to share this with everyone in the hope that it will reach some one ... a freind of yours perhaps, that will benefit from poor Aiko's years of being chastised and punished for peeing in the wrong places. We thought she was doing it because she was angry at us but in truth she was screaming out to us the only way that she could. Poor baby.
